AODP Alcohol & Other Drug Programs
Acupuncture Traditional Chinese form of health maintenance which stimulates the body's ability to balance and correct itself. It is based on the theory that the chi life-force energy flows throughout the body along a network of meridians. Hair-thin needles are inserted at specific points along the meridians to stimulate the flow of the chi to correct imbalance.

Chiropractic Care A therapeutic system based upon the interactions of the spine and nervous system, with treatment usually being to adjust a segments of the spinal column.
Cognitive behavioral therapy A psychotherapy based on modifying cognitions, assumptions, beliefs and behaviors, with the aim of influencing disturbed emotions.
Craniosacral

(CST, cranial osteopathy, CranioSacral) A method of manually appling a subtle movement of the spinal and cranial bones to bring the central nervous system into harmony.
Energy medicine Energy medicine is based on the premise that illness results from disturbances in the bodies energies and energy fields and can be addressed via interventions into those energies and energy fields.

Doula A woman who assists women during labor and after childbirth.

Theraputic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body affecting the muscular, skeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, nervous, and other systems of the body thus aiding the ability of the body to heal itself. Primarily applied with the hands, sometimes forearms or elbows are used for applying fixed or movable pressure, holding, and/or causing movement to parts of the body.
Midwife A person trained to assist women in childbirth.
Midwifery The techniques and practice of a midwife including childbirth assistance, the independent care of essentially normal healthy women and infants before, during, and after childbirth, and, in collaboration with medical personnel, the consultation, management, and referral of cases in which abnormalities develop.

Naturopathic Medicine Naturopathic Medicine blends traditional, natural therapies (such as diet, herbal medicine, homeopathy and counsel) with conventional primary care medicine.
Ophthalmology Medical science dealing with the anatomy, functions, and diseases of the eye.

Physical Therapy The treatment or management of physical disability, malfunction, or pain by exercise, massage, hydrotherapy.
Physician A person licensed to practice medicine; a medical doctor.
Physician Assistant A practitioner trained to perform under the supervision of a physician many clinical procedures traditionally performed by a physician, such as diagnosing and treating minor ailments.
Psychology-Psychotherapy The treatment of psychological disorders or maladjustments by a professional technique, such as psychoanalysis, group therapy, or behavioral therapy.
Reiki A Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki treatments provide many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well-being.

Social work Organized work intended to advance the social conditions of the community or the disadvantaged, by providing psychological counseling, guidance, and assistance.
Somatic Experience Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a naturalistic approach to the resolution and healing of trauma. SE teaches people how to develop a body awareness to "renegotiate" and heal traumas--to  "revisit" rather than relive them.  SE is used to treat post traumatic stress, and is effective in the treatment of developmental and shock trauma.
